Yes, they do accept invoices as well as copies of cancelled checks.
BUT, for example, if you bought a chip at the cage window in 1978 for $5... stored it for 21 years (in one of your wonderful 80 pocket holders, of course <<GG>>) and then sold it last week on eBay for $45.... You would not have a receipt for $5... and the post office would not accept a printout of the closed eBay page showing that it sold for $45. In this case, they told me that I have to come up with a copy of the customers cancelled check / money order, etc.
There has been a lot of misunderstanding about my initial posting on this subject. In spite of the reported experiences on this thread... the post office HAS sent out an internal email instructing their claims clerks NOT to recognize eBay winning bids (only) when processing a claim.
If ALL you have is a copy of the final eBay Auction page, you are SOL, IF the claims clerk is following the instructions from Washington, DC.
