Here's an interesting tidbit of information in a book I'm reading: "Every Light Was On", an oral history of Harrah's from interviews with 22 people associated with the northern Nevada Harrah's organization --- (page 121):
Lee DeLauer, a Harrah's Tahoe manager/executive is commenting on a time in late 1969 when Harrah's added a hotel at Lake Tahoe. There was a small table-games pit near the front desk, and it was DeLauer's idea to raise the table minimums to $3 (from the standard $1 tables) to get some additional spur-of-the-moment play while guests were waiting to check-in or check-out at the front desk. Here's the quotes:
"There was a little pit, about eight games, by the front desk at Harrah's. I wanted to be able to raise the minimum bet there from one dollar to three dollars and then go right up from there..."
"So Rome and Mert [2 executives] said, 'Well, we have to have a unit bet'. It took six weeks to get the three-dollars chips. We used them one day, and they were a bust. We took them out and started using tokens..."
---------------------------------------------
I assume that none of these $3 chips survived; they aren't listed in TCR. If any surfaced, they would be a real find!! A 1-day in play Harrarh's chip from circa 1969. Has anyone heard of these chips (This assumes that the recollection is accurate, but it sounds credible to me.)
