Charles is right that dealers should respond and I will try to give my opinion. In previous conventions, it was necessary to stay at the Ramada Suites to accomodate the number of people traveling with us. This was the first year we stayed at the Orleans and found it very comfortable except for the lack of covered parking (the Trop has limited covered parking ). But, when I went to check out...my whole attitude changed. For the past 4 nites, I had played in the pit at blackjack and craps as well as other games that are rather blurry after one beer. But I never failed to had the card in for comps and my companion gamblers, Dean Porter, Bruce Landau, Doug Saito, and Gene Grossblatt to name a few were witnesses to this. On the last day, no comps were tallied and I was directed to the top which was the General Manager and Owner standing in the pit Sunday Morning. After I handed my slot card to him and he had it read; he said nothing was ever recorded for my play!!! And my main outrage was that he had the attitude that he really did not care to look further. I may have been an Asian Whale, but it was not worth his time because it seems he felt I was attending a minor convention in his facility. Whether I play as a whale or minnnow, it should be to his responsibility that someone look into why four nites of playing was not tallied. I will never play that casino again.
I have read all the pros and cons on this board. I agree with most of you in either view, worry about the Trops facilities, like the price, think the club could and should subsidize room costs to give something back to the members that may have to pay a bit more at the Trop, and believe the leaders should make a decision based on the reality that comes from coldly looking at facts rather than opinions FOR THE FUTURE OF THE CLUB.
From attending conventions and shows from the very beginning, let me emphasize Charley's correct reading that any Sunday-Thurs show will prove disastorous!!!. It just won't work. Anywhere...
Also, the strip is where the action is and clearly is the choice of all those that tag along with chippers (spouses, dates, significant others...) to be entertained without having to travel very far to the action. I know of one lady that swears along with me, never to play again at the Orleans.....without naming names....Doc Meyers knows her pretty well toooo. Never gets comps and would rather travel all the way to the strip or Binions to get a decent break in gaming. As for the Poker Game, we have plenty of chipper/dealers and great staff of pit bosses etc. that could make up a game anywhere you like. And if they run the tournement and deal the tables...they can't play !!!!
I don't get to this bulletin very often, and try to stay off most of the time, but since Charley was sooo right....had to support the viewpoint. Mel
