All eBay sellers need to be aware. (I found out the hard way!!) The post office will NOT pay off on an insurance claim until you can provide them with a copy of the customer's cancelled check or money order!!
The post office WILL NOT recognize the completed eBay Auction page showing the final sale price of the item. You have to have your customer get a copy of the FRONT and BACK of their cancelled check. If the customer paid by a money order, that is even worse. It can take weeks or months to get a copy of a paid money order... and sometimes at considerable expense.
The window clerk may tell you that insurance claims under $50 will be paid right at the window with "no problem". They are lying to you if your claim involves an eBay item. I work for the post office and I believed them... until I had to file a claim for $37. I was quoted from 3 different manuals. Then I was shown an internal eMail that the post office is circulating. It instrcts the claims clerks NOT to honor or recognize eBay auction amounts when processing insurance claims. The eMail specifically addresses eBay auctions. What a complicated maze they put me through..
Just wanted to let you know.
