Chris, most respondants on this board are also sellers. Don't expect much sympathy. I, on the other hand, am a buyer/collector. I agree with you 100%. These dealers offering $1 live chips at a starting bid of $5 are a disgrace. The hobby is relatively new. As such, the opportunity to rip off the uninformed is enormous. I love the "maybe to him its worth it" reason. Yeah, right. If the unsuspecting dupe knew that the going price for such a chip was in the $2-$3 range, I kinda doubt that his answer would agree with the "worth it to me" reason offered here. I also love that guy who complained a while back on this BB that someone had the nerve to email a buyer of one of his lots that the price he paid was exobitant. Most people on this board (dealers, no doubt) agreed with his outrage. God forbid a buyer should be informed. I don't even want to even get into the postage ripoffs going on. Then again, that only hurts us buyers.
