Anytime, Jim, but I never said I got a chip at the
Louisville Flea Market. <g>
Though there are some ivories in Dale's book
attributed to casinos both here and in the UK and
Europe, it would be impossible to attribute this or
any other chip having simply a numeral and design on
it. These large denomination were probably used to
color-up at the faro tables, as there are so few
known.
Allow me to just toot my own horn, here, for a
minute regarding Dale's book:
The greatest pleasure I ever had in exhibiting chips
at shows is when I brought Dale's book to life with
a four display case exhibit at the Florida United
Numismatists Convention a few years ago. It was my
first time in any numismatic competition. I
finished 2nd-Place in the Misc. category. never
competed any more (just display non-compeitive), as
their are coin and token collectors in the running
that have been displaying their whole life and I
didn't feel I fit in with a collection of gambling
chips. I spelled Queen Elisabeth's name wrong on
one of the decseiption cards, and one of the judges
caught it. From that point out I had the highest
respect for that whole judging team to find
something like that.
No joke: I sold a very rare casino piece to Her Magesty in 1992.
