Yes, the "chip world" is big enough for BOTH books, Steve & James book and TCR. The Official guide, IMO, is a "library" piece in that I mean for the pictures alone it is worthwhile as MANY of us will NEVER see these chips in our collections let alone ever see them!! I rank this book up there with my collection of Howdy's auction catalogs.....loads of pictures and some interesting facts to boot!!
TCR, will probably remain as the "book of choice" to carry around when shopping for chips as it's ease of use plus spiral binding make it better for this purpose.
I put out an AC and Riverboat catalog using this format as I thought it best and still do......too bad we can't all agree on a format for ALL books.
Just as an idea, since Steve & James have all the pictures, why don't you guys just put out a book of pictures using Howdy's "grid format" he's used in past auction catalogs trying to "trace" ALL chip releases of a particular casino...no prices.....no comments.....just data! I think it would go over quite well AND be a real plus for the hobby.....
