Don, the rarity code is always the total number of known chips - regardless of condition. The prices are always for undamaged chips - even if none are known at present time. That's why you need to take 30% of the figure to determine the price of damaged chips. This allows for new discoveries. For example, until a few weeks ago, the $100 Circus Circus 1st issue was unknown in undamaged condition. Miraculously, an example popped up and was shown to me at the convention. The chip sold for at least the high price listed in our book! That's why we do this the way we do! Now, about the Moulin Rouge chips. Since the publication of our book, a hoard of undetermined size has appeared for sale of all denominations of the Eiffel Tower variety. (The Can-Can girl variety is now the more desirable by far.) But to answer your question, you must always read the liner notes in the book. Let's examine the $5 Can-Can girl chip. The rarity is R-1 because there are at least 2000 TOTAL chips. We believe that less than 15 of these are undrilled, which is why the note says "R-8 undrilled. Drilled chips are worth 5% of listed prices." This note is important because the 30% rule does not work for Moulin Rouge chips. Whenever there is a very large amount of drilled chips, and only a few undrilled chips, the price disparity will be equally large. I hope this answers your question.
