Michael, expensive software packages, encyclopedias, phone books, and lots of other stuff are distributed on CD all the time. Somehow these companies manage to deal with the piracy issue and stay in business. Yes, some people will find a way to copy your stuff, just like some people will harvest tournament chips regardless of the peer pressure not to or the risk. I am disappointed that I've tried and failed a couple of times to rally the kind of support the tournament chip problem got, where everybody chimes in with, "I promise to never bootleg your chipguide, and will shun anyone who does." Come on, chippers!
It's still the only way. There's too much to lose not to. You will open up vast new markets. As for "two different books," I would put stuff like the cross reference section, pictorial and appendixes on CD only or CD and a separate printed book. I wouldn't like to see different types of chips listed in different places. If you must, The only way I can see to split the listings is by area - say a book for North and one for south. But I really think TCR was pretty managable in last year's size, maybe a little bulky this year, and could grow easily enough by splitting out the back sections. It would especially allow you to produce a massive pictorial, which is what will open up your book to new markets and much greater sales. Make a nice, big, full color pictorial any chipper would want on the coffee table, and very few people will want "just the CD."
