Chuck; My response is not meant to be personal either. Suggestions are fine. So how about if we just leave names out of the main body of this post for the purpose of this discussion?
Which suggestions do you think a Chairperson should listen to or accept....all of them, some of them, or none of them?
How many times does the Chairperson have to listen to the same opinion(s) and/or discussion(s) from the same people over and over again that he/she does not agree with?
Does the Chairperson's opinions and suggestions count for anything?
What if the Chairperson does not agree with a member's opinion or suggestion... is he/she obligated to adopt that suggestion?
Who has the final say on the rules.... is it the Chairperson, or a dozen different members out of 2000 members?
How long does the Chairperson have to listen to the same old arguments from a minority of club members?
How come the Chairperson only receives "suggestions" from those members who are on-line? Doesn't any of the members who are NOT on-line have suggestions?
How about if the Chairperson has observed that he/she has not received any snail mail complaining about prior procedures or rules? Is it just members who have access to this bulletin board who have gripes?
Who does the Chairperson listen to?
If the Chairperson is appointed by the Club President to conduct a contest, is it not up to that Chairperson to establish the rules?
Tell you what Chuck. If President Sarles publicly assures a Chairperson that he/she has complete control on how the COTY/TOTY contest will be run next year, and that the Chairperson has the final decision on how the contest will be run, and that he/she decides which suggestions or rule changes are valid and has the authority to change them or not, then I will re-consider withdrawing my name for consideration as COTY/TOTY 2000 Chairman. With all due respect Chuck, I've since learned from my hasty post, that most chippers on this bb don't share your opinion. I've received a susbstantial number of emails advising to leave the rules as they are.
You're absolutely right Chuck. "This IS America" Maybe those members who share my opinion will state them publicly. Those who agree with you can state theirs as well. Let's see who decides what. The Committee Chairperson, whomever that will be, or Chuck?
