Thanks to Don (Anthony and Lueders!), Travis, George, Andy and Steve for their kind comments about the value of "The Chip Rack" as a trading basis. That's one of the things we hoped to accomplish by publishing the book.

I completely agree that trades work best if everyone's singing from the same hymnal. So long as the basis for valuation is the same, it doesn't matter whether you're trading current chips for obsolete chips, and to me that's one of the major advantages of a price guide.

I also agree with Travis' comments, echoed by others, that the neat thing about trading is that there's no coercion involved at all. It's always perfectly acceptable to say "No thanks, I think I'll pass" when someone offers you a trade you don't want to complete.

No need to be offended or upset; just decline.
