These are what we used to call French Ivory chips beleving them to be made from powdered ivory. I have several such chips. Dale Seymour in his Antique Gambling Chip book says that the chips are neither French nor ivory, but an early celluloid. [Seymour, p. 27] But these are from France--very old and alaready getting early bids. "French Ivory" chips were used at Monte Carlo.
