HOLIDAY HOTEL- CASINO, 1955-1998

Reno's Holiday Hotel-Casino closed on Sunday, November 1, 1998, after failing to find a buyer. Financier, Norman Biltz and Stanley Dollar (Dollar Steamship Lines), built the Holiday beside the Truckee River at 111 Mill Street in 1955. The Holiday opened without gambling and immediately began to lose money. The owners hired Newt Crumley, Jr., son of Newt Crumley Sr., Elko gambling pioneer, to operate a casino in the hotel. Crumley, Jr. operated the Holiday until 1962, when he was killed in a plane crash near Tonopah.

The cage was very cooperative in selling us $5.00 and $25.00 checks. We did not ask for $100.00 checks.
