Re: Universal Numbering System-New thread

Response to Dick, Marv, and Allan: Dick, my comments concerning personal shots were certainly not directed toward any of the people responding to my post, and that includes you. I appreciate the dialogue and it forces me to work out potential problems. The remarks were directed toward a few individuals who appear to have a personal agenda that they have put ahead of real issues and have made some baseless personal attacks against me. Marv, silver strikes can separately identified if there is a consensus to do so. I believe that there should be a separate classification for them since they represent a distinct segment of the collecting public. Just as limited editions have been assigned the letter "L", silver strikes can be assigned the letter "S" or "SS". There is no limit to what can be given a separate classification letter. The only pratical limit is that we do not want to develop so many separate classification that the system becomes too hard to remember or too complicated. Allan, I have been reflecting on your comment that the GUN numbers are too long. I happen to have a copy of the 2/27 LIVE CHAT/AUCTION printout in the clutter on the desk. Mike describes Lot 7 (I am intentionally deleting the color, mold, and inserty descriptions) as follows:

"Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, $5, TCR #1388"
The corresponding GUN number would be:

"CAE-5.00-H-23"
Or to include the exact same info it would read:

"LV-CAE-5.00-H-23"
Or since the hyphenation is only used to make it easier to read:

"CAE5.00H23"
I leave it to you to determine which format is longer. By the way Allan, please do not interpret my remarks to be confrontational. It is only out of deep respect for you and your expertise that I am carrying out this diologue. Your comments are appreciated.
