Re: Standardized numbering systems
In Response To: Standardized numbering systems ()

Thank you for your kind words of support for all reference works authors, Bob. I would just like to enlighten some of you who have not seen a copy of my latest 1999 Edition of "Black's Catalog of Atlantic City Casino Chips & Gaming Tokens". From page 110 to page 118 is a conversion table by Robert Ginsburg (CT) that converts "Black's #'s" to his Universal Numbering System. I mention this only because Bob G. will be one of the major presenters at the Universal Numbering System presentation next week at the Orleans convention. Do I prefer MY system over his? You bet! Will Ginsburg's system be adopted as THE system to be considered? Don't know. I'm sure there will be more refinements as the committee continues it's work and listens to comments from those in attendance at the workshop next week. I'll let the committee and other collectors be the final judge. I've only consented and incorporated Bob's efforts into my latest book as a demonstration of my initial support of the committee and because Bob put in a lot of work on the project and used my popular reference book as a trial. I'm not endorsing Bob's system, nor am I opposing it. Bob has no financial interest in my catalog, nor have I paid him anything for it's insertion into my catalog. In fact, I would have saved almost half a buck on each copy by not putting it in <g>. It's just there. Use it if you wish. Ignore it if that's your wish. BTW, I have reserved judgement on whether this cross-referenced numbering system, or one simliar to it, will be included in future editions of "Black's Catalogs" or not.
