Gene,
You probably have a valid point. Our point is that for someone looking out for 2,000 members, this sign up requirement has a super small window of opportunity for members to participate. No other club sponsored event has a participation sign up so restrictive. In theory you could be at the sign up hours early and still be too late!
If Archie has a problem with breaking the spirit of the rule issues. I have another example. Last week it was announced that Rene had purchased half a table from a person that already had one, PAYING MORE FOR HIS HALF THAN THE ENTIRE TABLE WAS SOLD FOR. Tell me AND the people ahead of Rene on the waiting list for a table, that this isn't a violation of the "SPIRIT" of the club table policy. Was it technically "legal"... Yes! Is there room for second guessing the "spirit of the rule"... Absolutely. However, Archie gave his personal blessing after the facts came out. Stating by the letter of the law, there was nothing prohibiting it. It just kind of sounds like "selective morality" to me.
Gene, I have always considered you to be among the most if not THE most reasonable person on this BB. It is not my intention or goal (I HAVE NO GOAL) to sign up 40 people for this tournament (OK, my post the other day about 2nd in line possibly being too late, may have been a little dramatic). I am just trying to represent the portion of the entire membership (AND not just BB members) that have a problem with the small 1:00 Thursday sign up period.
I want to ask your opinion as a "Casino Person". Would we not have a better chance of the Orleans being able to provide extra tables and especially dealers if they were aware before the afternoon of the event, that additional tables could be filled. I know Las Vegas is a different story, but when I am arranging for extra help here in Iowa (possibly asking for volunteers to work?), it would sure help if I had more than an afternoon of notice. One the same hand, no employer wants to schedule extra help when it is not going to be needed. Employers tend to error on the conservative side. They would rather have a customer mad at them for not having enough help, rather than their manager for having too much. Your feelings on this would be interesting to me.
The Dream Scenario for me.... Final Table.... Head to Head.... Steve Brock and Gene Trimble. Brock on a roll after just knocking out Lewin, Hughes, and Perlowski all on one hand (the 4 kings stood up)! Cinderella Story! The newcomer from Iowa... after polishing his poker skills at such famous card rooms as Winnavegas, Casino Omaha, and Meskwaki, comes to the Mecca of the gambling universe. Here he is Head to Head with a legend that cut his baby teeth chewing on a poker chip. The Legend is short stacked, but dangerous. After all this is Final Table Hold' em, the blinds are high, we have reached the NO LIMIT stage. Can the kid lay a trap that the veteran will not smell out? Kid holds AQ, legend holds KJ spade suited. Moderate betting before the flop. The flop comes AQ9 with 2 spades. Kid holds top two pair, Legend goes all in with his great drawing hand. Kid calls. Will the legend "run down" the Kid? will the Kid fill up? The answer is.... WHOOPS, my wife just woke me up and told me to go mow the lawn.
Talk to everyone later!
Steve
