My brother in law does the Mountain Man thing - black powder shooting, campouts, all kinds of stuff. Went on a campout with him once. Guy offered me a drink he called "Hoof," because the bottle was wrapped in the hide from the lower end of an elk's leg, hoof still attached. I don't know what was in the bottle, but after seeing others take a sip, I declined. Anybody make a face like that it CAN'T be good!

Different fellow that went by the name SharpStone offered me a sip of his "pie," a traditional mountain man drink traditionally shared from a jug. Oooooeee good!!! Can you say "s**tfaced?" It was made from apple juice, apple pie spices, and whatever alkey suits you, traditionally moon shine, but everclear or 151 Rum work fine. I learned to make it with 151 rum. I call my brew Sweetie's Apple Pie Squeezin's. Got rave reviews from the mountain boys. Kick yer butt and you won't even notice.
