Hi John, The El Rancho Vegas which burned down in 1960 was located on the present empty lot on the Strip at Sahara Ave across from the Sahara hotel. There are many stories regarding the history of this hotel. The Last Frontier and Flamingo were (more or less) where the current hotels are located. My favorite book on this topic is an architectural book called "Viva Las Vegas". This book has a lot of early history and many pictures of the early development of Vegas.
