Hi Jim,
I really don't think is that much of an issue. At the Colorado chapter meeting last Sunday, it was discussed amongst the members in attendance. Of about 60 members there, only 5 don't belong to the CC & GTCC. They still support the national organization because a portion of their dues in the Colorado Club go toward the chapter dues.
I happen to beleive it benefits me to be a member of national. I also beleive it benefits our chapter to be affiliated with national. However, as the CC & GTCC is not required to force every member of it to be a member of the organization of which it is a chapter member (ANA), neither should CC & GTCC try to force every local chapter member to belong to it.
From what Lee was saying Sunday, this was dealt with at the club's business meeting last year at the convention, and it was agreed to at that time by the board members that national membership wouldn't be a requirement for local membership. However, that changed after the convention, supposedly because there wasn't a quorum of board members. Kinda makes me wonder if there were any other issues decided at that meeting that were subsequently overturned for the same reason, or if this one was the only one.
See ya in a couple weeks!
Bob
