Re: Sands $100 SPT
In Response To: Re: Sands $100 SPT ()

Doug,

This sounds like a "VERY" interesting item.

However, I wonder if it is an actual "Gaming Token"

I have seen $100 tokens which are listed as .999 Silver Strikes on the Nevada Gaming Commission list of approved chips and tokens. All I have seen of these turned out to be "slot tokens" so far.

My gaming commission lists only go back to January 1996 and I have no listings for the Sand's with a $100 silver strike token. It could go back even farther though.

This token you've described seems somewhat different in that, it has "collectors edition " inscribed on it. Does it also have "Gaming Token" written on it?

Janice O'Neal might just might have the answer to this token. My guess is that it might have been an award with a special win or something the casino gave to their high rollers, or even a gift shop promotional item.

My other questions are:

Is there a Mint Mark on the token?
Is there a date on the token?
Is there some sort of writting on the Edge of the token?
Does the token also have Gold electroplating on it?

I am almost positive this wasn't a token won out of a machine as the lower value SPT's were, and I am almost sure it wasn't one won as the $200 SPT's were.

As for value, currently I have no idea what the worth is. It could be a very RARE item, or something fairly common that collectors just haven't hit up yet.
