I had the pleasure of taking Dr. Ted Brown and his brother
Don Brown on a walking tour of the casino district of
Cripple Creek Colorado this afternoon. I think I got most
everything right as to what used to be where what now is.
The changing scenario of the area in the early years was
difficult to keep up with if you weren't trying to pay
attention, and at the time, I wasn't.
Some news that hasn't been posted anywhere else yet. Old
Chicago was reported to just be closing for the winter, but
they've removed the chain's logo from the windows. That
leads me to believe the place has been sold. While a
standard notice for chip redemption is posted on the doors,
a call for slot clubs point redemptions and the manner to do
so in the same notice is unusual. That's why I think the
casino has been sold....outstanding debts (the credits on my
slot card) might be both a condition of the sale and Gaming
Regs required now that so many casinos track individual's
gaming habits. (If you wanna write-off gaming losses on your
tax returns, ONLY gamble with a slot card. You can receive a
real printout of an actual annual win/loss record that the
IRS HAS to honor)
Crystal Canyon is OPEN in the former Glitter Glutch, but
there is no gaming. It appears to be a gift shop and pool
room/arcade. We didn't check out the bar at the back of the
building for video slots, but it doesn't look at this time
that gaming is in the near future for this property.
The Palace served up their $2.95 Prime Rib meal for the
three of us, always a good deal, and the area that used to
house the poker table now has slots, so the house chips of
all values are again all out-of-play.
