What is now Trump Plaza was originally a joint venture between Donald Trump and Harrah's.
Trump had hotel expertise, but no experience running a casino. He brought Harrah's in to run the casino portion of the venture. Harrah's Trump Plaza opened in 1984.
Within a year, The Donald's ego and need for total control managed to sour the relationship with Harrah's, and the result was that Harrah's sold its interest to Trump. In 1985, the hotel casino was renamed Trump Plaza, owned and operated solely by Trump.
