For those contributing to this thread, here's my opinion from a relatively new collector. For the longest time, I did not know this board existed. I would check out Chequers, which has very little activity, but was yearning for more. I would get onto Greg's board but always seemed to miss the last icon "The Chip Board". Plus, because I'm a LV collector, my first thought was, "why do I want to be here, this board is for collectors from everywhere BUT Nevada".
Obviously with the new software that Greg has up, we can see the numbers of people reading the threads. But only a few of us contribute question, comments, rebutals, attacks,... on this board. I personally would like to see more discussions on chips, Q&A, history, questions, and less personal posts of how many Bobs there are, baseball, Kelly,... I understand this is an open forum, and for the small community of dealers who know each other it may be appropriate and welcome. But there are many novice collectors who are not as intimate with the majority of those who respond to this board or who know each other from many years back.
As a new collector here's my wish list:
1. More participation from those on the sidelines reading the posts.
2. A FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) area for the novice collector
3. Active promotion from CC>CC to not only advance the hobby for existing collectors but allow better access and information for new collectors
4. Enhancing the hobby not only for dealers, but for the masses/collectors
I hate to come across as a complainer or pessimistic, I'm NOT. I really enjoy reading the BBS, can't wait to get my auction catalogs in the mail, my monthly Gaming Times, talking/emailing to a fellow chipper, and anything else I can get my hands on regarding the hobby. After being a chipper, it's hard to go back to my monthly coin club meetings. As a new collector, like anything else that is new, I'm excited, exhilarated, a spongue for new information, and receptive to any advise anyone will give. Let the general public know we are here and they will come.
Okay, I'm ready... let me hear the comments, flames, etc.
