Super Bowl, Rose Bowl, Kentucky Derby, etc. are all trade marked and the chippers cannot use them without obtaining a license to do so. That doesn't mean it has been done, illegally--it has. I would have to go back over my chips to determine which ones violated protected rights--think that the 4 Queens or the Trop in L.V. may have called one of their chips by a protected name. In any event, that's why the Trop chip for the 1996 and others just say "football." My catalogue says that the Tropicana chip, N4506 bears the statment Superbowl XXVIII" but I'll have to check the chip to see. In any event, if it did have those words and did not get a license to use them, this would violate the NFL's trade mark.
