It's most likely due to the following E-Bay insertion fee's. You pay for the items you list whether they sell or not.

Insertion Fees

When you list your item for sale on eBay, you are charged an Insertion Fee.

Regular Auctions - The Insertion Fee is based upon the opening value or minimum bid of the item you list for sale.

Reserve Price Auctions - The Insertion Fee is based upon the Reserve Price of the item you list for sale.

Dutch Auctions - The Insertion Fee is based upon the opening value or minimum bid of the item you list for sale multiplied by the quantity of items you offer.

Opening Value or Reserve Price- - - - FEE

$10.00 - $24.99- - - - - - - - - - - $0.50
$25.00 - $49.99- - - - - - - - - - - $1.00
$50.00 and up- - - - - - - - - - - - $2.00

Final Value Fees

At the end of an auction, you will be charged a Final Value Fee which is based on the final value of your item.

Regular and Reserve Auctions - The Final Value is the closing bid.

Dutch Auctions - The Final Value is determined by the lowest successful bid multiplied by the quantity of items sold.

Final Value Fees are calculated as follows:

5% of the amount of the high bid (at the auction close) up to $25
2.5% of that part of the high bid from $25.01 up to $1,000
1.25% of the balance of current high bid greater than $1,000.01

You will not be charged a Final Value Fee if:

There were no bids on your item, OR
There were no bids on your Reserve Price Auctions that met the reserve price.

The Final Value fee is not contingent on you consummating the sale with the buyer.

In E-Bay auctions the Seller get's hit on both ends, listing and selling.

I wonder what E-Bay would do if a Seller included in his Description a disclamer that the Buyer would also pay the "FINAL FEE" fee in addition to the Postage?
