I did seek legal council about four years ago concerning something that was posted about myself on an internet newsgroup. I was told that real damage had to be provable, be it to reputation, loss of business or any other aspect that directly affected my life.

Where it gets really tricky is when we start talking "The Net". I could post this message as you just by knowing your name and email address. Whether or not this BB records a cookie as to who actually wrote it is a question only Greg can answer. Even then, its possible to conceal identity with right the software. What you are left with is trying to prove that the person that you might bring suit against actually typed and sent the message to the BB. ...witness three people posting the same email address within the same family but posting as individuals....
