I have one of those early expensive scanners, max res 2560 times 2560 dpi. I think they still cost pretty close to what I paid for mine 5 years ago, but it isn't because the high res technology got better, it's because hard drive capacity has significantly increased. A Max Res Full Page Scan could fill 180 Meg. I scanned a 3 x 5 inch photo when I 1st bought the thing and sent to my printer. ....that 3x5 printed onto 6 pages of paper!
Low resolution is what you need to set the scanner.
If you're trying to hide a fake chip, put it in a holder and take a flash photo from a digital camera. I've already asked a seller on eBay to send me a scan of a chip, haven't heard back.
One of these days most lines will be satellite based. I have the DSS dish. I'm waiting for the satellite people to offer me their service at 400K baud without having to buy another dish. I'll buy the modem (it's already available) but I won't buy another dish at $400. They're bouncing off of the same satellites that I'm already getting my DTV!
Sorry, I started to drift into another area....
