ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A boat towing barges collided with a Mississippi River bridge Saturday, causing barges to break loose and hit a docked riverboat casino, sending it adrift, the Coast Guard said.
The casino went about 500 feet down the river and another boat pushed it against the river bank, KMOV-TV of St. Louis reported.
It was not known how many people were on board the casino, but there were no immediate reports of serious injuries. It was not known if the casino sustained damage.
Barges apparently were adrift in the river, posing a danger to other traffic, said Wayland Jennings, a telecommunications specialist for the Coast Guard in Keokuk, Iowa.
The President on the Admiral was struck about 7:45 p.m. after a boat collided with the Eads Bridge across the Mississippi in downtown St. Louis.
Two other bridges were closed in the downtown area out of fear they might be struck by the drifting barges.
