My feelings on unions are based on my personal experiences too. In the mid-70's I worked in a non-union factory. I got seven merit-based pay raises in 24 months. That couldn't have happened in a union shop because I was representing myself based on my performance instead of paying someone to represent me.
Recently, the Teamster strike at UPS cost my business more money than I personally make in a year. 75% of my biz comes and goes out the door via UPS. It hit me hard. It's very difficult to support a system that affects people far beyond the disgruntled few who are unhappy with their own working situation.
