I've stayed out of the discussion on the difficulty of getting the Orleans commemorative chips so far. I don't collect LE's anymore and didn't buy, or try to buy any of these.
However, it seems to me the Club creates a 'commemorative chip' itself for those who want to remember the get together and to my knowledge has always had enough to go around. These are sold cheaply enough for any attendee to afford.
I don't see the problem with any member, dealer or not, purchasing as many Orleans chips as they will sell him. This is no different from any other LE, and the games played by the clubs (limited amounts, limited purchases, allocations to employees, etc.) can be applied to this chip as well. The games played by collectors (buy more if the issue amount is printed on the chip, buy lots to trade, buy lots to sell, by lots to put away for my retirement) can be applied to this chip as well.
If you want to play the LE game.... don't fault the Orleans from doing what every other club who plays does. I don't consider these LE's real chips and (with a few exceptions) won't collect them. Others who collect 'things made to be collected' are welcome to do so, but shouldn't complain about the difficulty of getting them. That's the LE game!
