Here is my response to beating low limit poker. These observations come from 37 years of being around and involved in gambling. They are my views and not computer theories. I was a BJ player until the last time I played, about 1986. I could count and did count. I knew all known ways (At that time) to count. I have a real good memory of cards. I also played professional Gin, where if you can not remember all cards and the way they are running from previous hands, you will get killed. I made money at gin. I played professional poker from 72 to 80. I never played under 15-30 limit. I did make a living out of it in all years. I believe the key to my success was, I did not have to make a living from it. I was not afraid to lose. I had a business that pretty much ran itself. It could pay the bills if I failed. Bankroll and management of same is the key to being a winning player. None of this is meant as a brag, just credentials for my views.

1. When you hear from friends about how much they are making, ask to see their daily records. Gamblers only remember and talk about WINS. Do they ever tell you about losing days? I have asked many people to see daily records. NOT ONE HAS PRODUCED THEM. Reason: they do not keep them. Selective memory is wonderful. Maybe Bob Ginsburg can speak on this subject

2. I have had many props working in my low limit poker rooms. Many keep records. Some were winning players but NONE were making a living. They had their pay and benefits and they tried hard not to play into them. A good prop can do this but can not show a big profit on his playing. The ones that try to survive, can make it. There is a big turnover in prop players. Could be the most difficult job in a casino. The one time in a week, you get on a rush, and the pit boss gives your seat away. ITS MADDENING.
3. I firmly believe that a 4&8 or under player can not make a living. If he has other income and is extremely careful he can show a profit and be a winning player over a time span. There is a huge difference in being a winning player and paying the rent. Low limit poker games are designed to keep players in action, as long as possible. Wonder why?
4. In Nv. about $100 per hour comes off the table. Rake, dealers tokes, cocktail tokes, etc. If it is a jackpot game it is a lot more that comes off the tables. Much more comes off the tables in Ca. Jackpot poker is the ruination of low limit poker.
5. These views do not apply to the occasional gambler. He is out for fun. If he loses a few hundred, that was what he thought he was going to do in the 1st place. He also gets lucky on occasions and is extremely happy.

This is too long and I haven’t said half of what I had to say. Many will disagree. No need to respond as it will not change what I have learned in 37 years. I don’t think what I’ve said will change any ones opinions. My post on BJ will be later.
BTW, I stopped playing poker professionally when I moved to LV. I got a job. At this point, I do not know why I made that choice. I liked the casino business, maybe. You can not do both.
