Gene -- I'm sure if I lived in Nevada and hung around casinos a lot, I'd know one or more. Apparently, Bob Orme does (per his response to my message).
There are many kinds of people I don't know personally, but just because I don't know one doesn't mean they don't exist. Sort of like the John Denver line which goes something like, "Why do you think animals can't talk just because they've never said anything to you?" [Being facetious here, of course.]
The point is, IF IT CAN BE DONE, you can bet your *** that someone IS DOING IT. And I'm satisfied from my own mathematical analysis that it can be done, however difficult it might be (too difficult for me, though as I said, even without counting, with careful/skillful play, the house odds in blackjack are not very high and a good player can play a low limit game for a long time before getting worn down by that small percentage -- better for the player than the 97% slot payout that some casinos are so proud of).
I also think it is unlikely that the individuals who are successfully counting (and winning regularly) are going to announce themselves either publicly or to casino management <g>. ----- jim o\-S
