Bob, You've hit it right on the nail. I am a low limit poker player, mainly Omaha, and I found the secret to all poker games is patience. Lucky for me, I have it. I usually play long sessions and have no problem just playing my blinds without ever playing a hand if necessary. I never lose a lot that way, but could win a bunch.
Every poker book I've read stresses position. I agree it's important, but I feel patience is the most important ingredient, especially in low limit. If I don't have the nuts on the flop or at least a draw to one, I'm out. I care less if it's a kill pot or or how much I have into it or how many people are in the pot. My strict maxim is "do not chase."
Of course, I can't make a living at low limit poker, but I haven't had a losing year since I kept record. I averaged $13,000 a year for the past 21 years.
Believe it or not, my other maxis is that I do not gamble. If I want to gamble, I'll play the stock market. I NEVER play any other casino games including Black Jack.
