I am looking for input from all collectors.
I am having a problem regarding the $10 Silver Premium Gaming tokens and inclusion of certain types of varieties in my price guide.
I have noted how some of the chips as the DI which Gene Trimble speaks of in his "NOT ALL WAS GOOD AT THE CONVENTION" message posted here, where the inlay sticker was replaced.
Most of you may or may not know that the $10 Nevada Silver Premium Gaming tokens are a two piece construction where the center(silver portion) of the token is inserted into an outer ring(brass).
This construction creates the possibility of the outer rings and centers being removed and interchanged.
At the convention I had two tokens which I had deliberately taken apart and shown to several collectors and dealers(some coin dealers and people who sell these think they are solid .999 silver tokens - See some of the occasional descriptions on E-Bay auctions), and mentioned this possibility could become a reality, mainly, on the tokens where a casino has several different tokens. And currently, there is a MAJOR concern(albeit by me) regarding the tokens from McCarran Airport and the mispellings on the El Cortez. The token with the Royal Flush design on the reverse has been found with four(4) different font variations on the outer ring. This is the ONLY token so far that has this difference. Now lets say someone wanted to create their own RARE variety, by taking one of the Royal Flush tokens apart and putting the outer ring on any one of the other three designs which haven't appeared with this variety yet.
I am including a scan of the token which I had at the show now, put back together but with the center reversed in the outer ring. The token on the right is the ALTERED token. The token on the left is the UNALTERED token.
My concern is for the collector. Currently, I have included such tokens with different fonts on these outer rings as a separate listing. I am thinking about deleting these listing and putting a note regarding the same design token in the current APPENDIX listing in the guide noting there that these varieties do exist. I feel that I just might be giving credence to tokens that may be altered. Although to this date I know of only ONE deliberately altered token and it's the one you see below.
Now I am asking all of the collectors here and especially the Silver Premium Gaming Token collectors - WHAT DO YOU THINK? Should I include these tokens as a separate listing in the guide with prices or should I just make note of them in the appendix?
I am having serious doubts as to making this issue even public. I don't want to give anyone any ideas but, I believe as an author of a guide on these tokens I do have a responsibility to the collector to BEWARE.
