Mr. Turner,
I am one of the silent majority of chippers that have sat by and let
others in our club express the feelings of most of us concerning The
Lodge Grand Opening Chip situation. I attended our National Convention
last week in Las Vegas, and personally witnessed a little backlash
against Colorado Chips. I myself do not have any Lodge chips at this
time, as I had decided to bypass these chips in protest. I am a
collector of Colorado chips, and have made many trips to Blackhawk,
Central City and Cripple Creek collecting chips and doing some gambling
along the way. We love coming to Colorado but this situation put us in
a less than happy frame of mind towards the Lodge. I guess we are no
different than any other group of people when you feel like your group
is being targeted to be ripped off. I am sure all of the casinos know
the passion that we have in collecting our chips and our desire to have
a complete collection. Normally that Lodge set of chips would have been
a very nice selling piece at our National Convention, however I do not
know of one set being sold at the convention.
Thank you for all of your help on behalf of the Chip Collecting
Community. It is my honest hope that the Lodge was reconsidering their
position on these chips, because it was the right thing to do, and not
because of political pressure. The Casinos of Colorado are a fun to
visit, and their chips are fun to collect.
The chip collecting hobby tends to attract an "upscale" hobbyist. After
all many people cannot afford to walk out of a casino without cashing in
many of their chips as all of us chippers do regularly! Many of these
collectors (including myself) are happy to take our chances on the
casino's blackjack tables, and play the other devices that are the true
"profit centers" for the Casino. Our hobby has a large percentage of
people that are very intellegent and willing to defend our club at their
own expense.
In summary, chip collectors are good for the casinos, and the casinos
are good for us. Chippers do much word of mouth advertizing for their
favorites, and the Casinos can make a very nice profit on the chips that
we don't cash in (even at face value!). Thank you for your help in this
issue, it kind of restores a little faith in Government at a time when
Gov't is taking a little beating! Again, Great job, and oh by the way
if you are looking for another cause to work on................... You
know that $5 limit.........!!! Nope, I won't press my luck for now!
Sincerely,
Steve Brock
