There isn't a consensus on cleaning chips. Personally, I do clean them, use Sterling's Magic and it works great. I happen to consider chips in a different realm from old coins, which some chip collectors try to group into the same category when the issue of cleaning them is discussed. The way I look at it, chips are tiny works of art. I don't think anyone would suggest it to be improper to remove the dust from an older painting or picture.
