Travis, you just let me down! A produced copyrighted product isn't intellectual property unless it can be altered, or reproduced without the consent of the original producer. Software can be copied online or offline without the consent of the author assuming that they make it available as shareware without a built-in cut off disallowing further use. Press release bylines have to be included in reposting the releases. These are all information transfers, not a transfer of property that is more than a collection of words. While intellectual property is very important as a right, it doesn't pertain to anything other than the transfer of priveleged information. ....at the very least without acknowledgement of the source of the info.
A chip is hardware and as so has nothing to do with intellectual rights after it became a real commidity. If someone stole the design from the designer before the chips were made, then there'd be an issue with intellectual property rights.
If someone wants to commission a release of fantasy chips mocking the real ones, the door is open to do so, but to make then too similar to the original release would be asking for real trouble. ....and I think Chipco might give you some resistence too!
....just thinking out loud, and still miffed at the Lodge regards,
Bob
