I was hoping another scanner would post here, Joe. I had experimented with GIF and JPG files but even with reduced colors, I get smaller files with JPG. I use the lowest resolution that Photodeluxe allows, which is 'quality one' in the options menu and I consistently get smaller files with JGP than GIF. Just tried a large file that I had save in JPG and brought it up in Photodeluxe and then saved in GIF at 128 colors. JPG was 89KB and GIF was 177KB. This is a pic of a group of eleven chips.
Would be interested in your comments. I'm obviously doing something different as I never get files as small as you mention. However, I do scan at double size to make chips visible on the cheaper monitors, so that will probably X4 the size... maybe that is the difference as my files are typically about 59-60 KB in JPG for a single chip.
