Hi Jim, Greg, Gene.... and any other "lurkers" out there who have not responded to the Resorts 1e inquiry posts.
I was in Bob Mera's shop in A.C. over the weekend where he has a great 30 day auction concept going on continuously. Consignors place casino items (primarily chips... but not limited to chips) onto his auction board. As soon as a bid (either electronically, telephone or in-person) is entered, that current bid is displayed on a small card that accompanies the chip on display and the clock starts ticking. Any subsequent increase in bidding activity is recorded on the card along with the date the increased bid was received and the last name of the current bidder. The item remains up for auction for 30 days after the last bid has not been increased, at which time it is declared sold and the consignor gets paid, less Bob's commission.. A very novel way to conduct an auction, in my opinion.
Now, what does that have to do with the Resorts 1e you may be asking? Well, Bob has that similar $1 gray Tropicana chip I mentioned in my earlier post.... consigned to his 30 day auction, where it currently has a $70 bid from a well known Jersey collector. No, not me.... and I'm not the consignor either.... nor do I have the chip in my collection. I doubt if the chip was ever in play.... but it does exhibit considerable wear. My own opinion is that it is "questionable", which is why I placed the ???????? following the catalog number in my book.
Someone mentioned dye in an earlier post. It's quite possible.... as I've indicated in my earlier post, the gray color seems to be just on the surfaces and where it has a few nicks, there is evidence of the underlying white. Perhaps someone is doing some experimenting??? Caveat Emptor.... Archie
