Hi Don; Well I'm glad you didn't take my advice..... without trying acetone first on a "junk" chip. Jim P.'s valid comment about the mint mark falling off needs further explanation for the benefit of non-coin collectors. The reason the mint mark would fall off after being subjected to acetone is because some dishonest folks would add a "d" or "s" or "cc" mintmark with glue to a coin without a mintmark (Philadelphia) thereby making the now altertered coin "more valuable" with a mintmark. Acetone would disolve the glue... hence Jim's remark about the mintmark falling off. Gee, I wonder if there are some center inlays that have been added to some otherwise common chips? I've always been suspicious of some Dutch Inn Puerto Rico inlays that had glue remnants in evidence on the surfaces of center inlays. We've all seen edge inserts added to chips through the use of a magic marker that some amatuer thought would fool someone.. Archie
