Just my two cents on the poker debate. I am an East Coast poker player who has been making a living at it for a little less than a year. I do not try to pass myself off as an expert on the industry but I have read a lot of info on the glory years of poker. I will greatly miss the WSOP as it is known now. I think that the name will be carried on, most probably at one of Jack's casinos in the South. It will not be the same. The poker industry will continue, and may very well flourish in the future, but I have to agree with Gene. I think that poker rooms will decrease in Las Vegas in the coming years. It is not hard to understand why a casino can make more money with slots than with real live games dealt by human beings. A machine can not call in sick and doesn't need benifits, etc. I see Steve Wynn having the premier high limit room at Bellegio and the Orleans being the biggest low and middle limit room in the city. I think that most of the smaller rooms will close. The locals will still have their games at local casinos but the poker rooms on the strip and downtown will slowly close up shop. As far as major tournaments, I can see them growing for a few more years before they reach their peak. I just wish that I could have won my bracelet before the WSOP ceased being what it once was. It would have been nice to have my picture on a chip. Who knows, maybe Gene will allow the Fiesta to issue a chip for my birthday. :-) Just my two cents.
