I know I promised no more poker posts, BUT, as stated earlier, poker is the California Card Rooms BUSINESS. The rake is doubled what LV rakes. If a LV card room could get Ca rake, there would not be a problem.

Travis, an 8 table room in LV, might drop 1 1/2 to 2 million per year. If it is run right it might hold 30%. 600K is peanuts to a casino. 100 slots in the same space, much less overhead, dropping $100 per day. Do I need to say more.

Poker wives playing slots are not tracked. The side asction argument will not hold water with the suits. I have been making this argument for 15 years. I devised a way to track them at the FQ's. Nobody cared. The FQ's poker room was always an over achiever when compared to any room downtown, including the Horseshoe. I am not talking about total drop. I am talking sq footage, compared to how many tables, compared to drop. My tables were at all times better than anywhere DT. It was not enough. Check again the slot numbers above.

The Queen's Poker Classic was the only major tournament in Nv that showed a bottom line profit. ( since I do not want to get into another subject about what is major and what is not, I did not include the Orleans in that last statement) It is well run and shows a profit.

No 4&8 player can make a living at poker. What happens when the rake is doubled. I will step out and say there are VERY FEW 4&8 players that can show a profit at the end of a year, much less make a living. If you are not 10&20 and above you can not win. I bet that statement draws fire from Jim or others. I draw that statement from the previous 11 years (pre 1980) of playing professionaly and being a winning poker player.
