No arguement that the Horseshoe was unique. At one time there was no other place for locals to go.
BUT
It did not just, start changing last Thursday at 4PM when Becky took over. It started almost 3 years ago when they pulled out the locals slot machines and replaced them with Strip slot machines. They sacrificed the locals to places like Stations and the Fiesta. Tourist's are much more profitable. Now when you want a comp, they ask for your slot card. This is the way of business.
Benny Binion's policy was 15% of net went to comps, and heads would roll if it didn't. Those days are gone and will remain gone.
I think you can look for the Horseshoe to be sold to a corporation in the near future.
One more thing, when Benny was running the show, there was no poker room. I am not sure the year that Jack opened it but it was in the last 10 years.
Don't yell, I am not anti Horseshoe or anti poker. Poker is my 1st love, but the handwriting has been on the wall for poker for some time. Likewise for Keno, which is why I took bingo. If I had to work in the pit, I would retire.
The passing of the torch at the Horseshoe, is an end to a glorious era in downtown LV.
