I returned a few years ago for an all school reunion in my village of Springfield; landing at Sioux Falls, I picked up my rental car and headed west; saw a cement block building that said, "* * * Casino." I chuckled, saying to myself, "sure that's a casino." I drove into Springfield and parked in front of what used to be the telephone building. It was a "Bar and Casino." I walked in and there were wall to wall videos. This in a town that when I came back from the service and led a fight to get a license for the Legion to sell beer, lost by a vote of 90 to 10%. No, I didn't cause them and am glad they weren't there when I was growing up. The only money that pours into those videos [othter than in Deadwood] is local money and there never was much local money for anything beyond the necessities of life in my little town.
