John -- I grew up on Long Island (Lindenhurst -- Suffolk County on South Shore). As a youngster (starting when I was about 7 or 8), I delivered the Long Island Daily Press -- one of my customers was the local movie theater. I made a deal with the manager -- I delivered the paper for free (paid for them myself) and he let me and one friend into the movies free whenever I wanted. Admission at the time was 25 cents and the featured movies changed every Sunday and Thursday. Also, there was a Saturday matinee (different film from the regular Saturday evening movie), with lots of cartoons. So, some weeks I would get to see as many as five movies (since most of the regular showings were double features) for the 30 cents I had to pay my district manager for the papers.
I also delivered to the Lindenhurst PD station house, also for free. This had benefits in my early teen years that somewhat different than those I enjoyed at the movie theater! <g> ----- jim o\-S
