I would think that once a chip is no longer in use by the club that ordered it, "put it in play" and then removed it from play; is now an obsolete chip.
*Webster's definition of Obsolete: 1. having fallen into disuse, especially by having been replaced. 2. of discarded or outmoded type.
What I'd like to know is what do we call a chip that has been "obsolete" for several years, and turns up in play (at the same casino) again? It happens!!
A very good question, Paul.
